North Carolina Community Foundation Invests in Long-Term Recovery from Hurricane Helene

Nearly 18 months after Hurricane Helene swept through the southeastern U.S., North Carolina Community Foundation is continuing to support community members and organizations in their recovery.

The foundation recently awarded $9 million to more than 100 organizations that are working to provide rental assistance, rebuild homes for low-income survivors, repairs, and food.

“The scope and scale of requests highlight the significant challenges still facing western North Carolina,” said Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, president & CEO of the North Carolina Community Foundation. “We’re grateful to be able to support the organizations doing this work and appreciate the thousands of donors who have contributed to the Disaster Relief Fund."

Through the Disaster Relief Fund, North Carolina Community Foundation has received $33 million in contributions, and nearly $21 million has now been awarded to support recovery of those impacted by the September 2024 storm that caused massive damage to communities in the mountains of western, North Carolina, communities have struggled to rebuild and house all those affected.
