More Than $500,000 Raised For Tornado Relief Through Team Effort

Tornado

The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga and the United Way of Greater Chattanooga raised more than $500,000 for tornado relief after a powerful storm tore through Hamilton County, Tenn., in April.

This tornado relief fund provides resources to nonprofits who are helping locals affected by the storm, like the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, Red Cross and Salvation Army. More than $300,000 from the fund has already been granted.

The multi-state storm produced a powerful tornado in the area that resulted in loss of life and many destroyed homes which displaced families.

The effort comes as the Community Foundation is also responding to help those in its community impacted by Covid-19.

"Once again, our community has opened its heart and arms to those hit hardest in the wake of an unexpected tragedy," said Maeghan Jones, president of the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga.
