The Communities Foundation of Texas this week announced that it has passed the $2 billion milestone for its grant making.

The foundation foundation is one of the largest grantmakers in its state, and manages more than 1,000 charitable funds.

During its 67 years, CFT’s grants have funded nonprofits working on issues like education, economic security, social services, and more.

“We've had an extraordinary history with much to be proud of, yet given the ongoing needs in our community, there is much to be done,” said Dave Scullin, the foundation’s CEO. “We look forward to partnering with more difference makers working side by side to strengthen our community for many years to come.”

During the last decade alone, CFT has funded more than 10,430 nonprofits, with about a quarter of those nonprofits working on issues related to education.

Its statewide education initiative, Educate Texas, aims to improve student outcomes, and enhance their state’s public education system. The initiative has really taken off, and stands to benefit over one million first-generation, low-income students.

Economic security is also important to the foundation. That’s why it created the Working Families Success Network, which has helped 7,886 people toward the path to economic security. It also supports a number of other projects across North Texas, including the Perot Museum and The Senior Source’s Elder Financial Safety Center.

The foundation is also the driving force behind North Texas Giving Day – one of the nation's most successful community giving day programs. More than 100,000 donors have made donations through North Texas Giving Day totaling more than $290 million.
